A 30-Year Journey of Growth, Community, and Success

1. Introduction: Reflecting on 30 Years

Reflecting on the 30 years of FB Displays & Designs, Inc., it’s been an incredible journey filled with growth, challenges, and countless memories that have shaped who we are today. Reaching this milestone is not just a testament to the company’s success but to the dedication of everyone who has been part of this journey.

2. The Early Days: Foundations of Success

It all started in August 1994, with a dream and a lot of determination. The company was founded with a vision to provide exceptional display solutions that would help businesses stand out and succeed. Just a year later, in August 1995, I made one of the best decisions by hiring my first employee, Gloria. Gloria wasn’t just an assistant or bookkeeper; she was the heart of the operation—a receptionist, a confidant, and an all-around great ambassador for the brand. Her commitment and enthusiasm played a pivotal role in those early days, laying the groundwork for the culture of excellence that would define us.

Around the same time, the business moved from the humble confines of my garage to a small office and showroom. This was a huge step forward, symbolizing our transition from a fledgling startup to a growing company. Over the years, that small office has quadrupled in size, but it still holds the memories of those early days.

3. Milestones and Achievements

Our journey has been marked by several milestones. In 1999, we were honored to receive the Small Business of the Year Award from the Amherst Chamber of Commerce. This recognition was a significant boost, affirming that we were on the right track and giving us the momentum to keep growing.

Another proud moment came in 2005 when FB Displays & Designs was named one of the Best Places to Work in Western New York. This award meant the world to me because it wasn’t just about our business success—it was about the environment we had created for our employees. Ensuring that our workplace was supportive, respectful, and engaging was always a priority, and this award was a reflection of that commitment.

I am very grateful that I have been personally honored with several accolades. However, what has truly touched me has been the recognition from my peers in the industry. Receiving the Teddy Award five times from one of our key partners and suppliers has been an incredible honor. It’s a reminder that the relationships we’ve built within the industry are as important as the work we do.

4. The Heart of the Business: Employees and Culture

What truly makes or breaks a business is the quality of its employees and the culture that surrounds them. I have been incredibly lucky and blessed to have been able to build a team that not only excels in their work but also embodies the values we hold dear. Together, we’ve developed a culture of camaraderie, respect, and loyalty—toward each other, our clients, and our suppliers.

This culture didn’t just happen overnight. It was cultivated through consistent efforts to create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected. The trust and loyalty we have built with our clients and suppliers are a direct result of this culture, and I am so very proud of that.

5. Community and Camaraderie: Beyond Business

Some of my fondest memories from the past 30 years revolve around the moments we’ve shared as a team outside of the day-to-day work. Whether it was holiday parties, bowling events, or birthday celebrations, these moments have been crucial in building the strong bonds that make our team more like a family.

One tradition that stands out is our annual holiday gift shopping and wrapping for less fortunate families. This wasn’t just about giving back—it was about coming together as a team to make someone’s holiday season a little brighter. It’s these experiences that have enriched our company culture and reminded us of the importance of community and compassion.

6. Looking Forward: A New Chapter with Apogee

As I reflect on the past 30 years, I can’t help but think about the lessons I’ve learned and the advice I would offer to those just starting out. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s the importance of staying true to your values. No matter how much the business landscape changes, those core principles of honesty, respect, and integrity will always be your guiding light.

Another key lesson is the value of your team. Surround yourself with people who share your vision and values, and who are as committed to the success of the business as you are. Foster a culture of respect and camaraderie, and you’ll find that your team will be your greatest asset.

Looking forward, FB Displays & Designs, Inc. is entering an exciting new chapter as a division of Apogee. This partnership represents not just a continuation of our legacy but an opportunity to expand and innovate under the banner of a respected and forward-thinking company. With Apogee’s resources and support, I am confident that FB Displays & Designs will continue to thrive, bringing even more value to our clients and creating new opportunities for growth.

7. Conclusion: A Gratitude-Filled Reflection

To our clients, thank you for trusting us with your visions and allowing us to help bring them to life. To our suppliers and partners, thank you for your support and collaboration over the 30-year journey.
